Wolff: McLaren created an interesting precedent
When at Monza Lando Norris yielded a position to his teammate because of an unsuccessful pit stop, McLaren asked Oscar Piastri to let Lando pass on track to compensate for the mistake. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff believes McLaren have created an interesting precedent by doing so.
Toto Wolff: "I don't want to say whether that was right or wrong, but I'm curious what it will ultimately lead to. They've created an interesting precedent that people will want to repeat.
What if a team makes another mistake and it's not a pit stop... Will they swap them again? How far can they go? Although on the other hand, it's unfair to deprive a driver of points because of a team mistake when he's trying to catch his teammate.
I think we'll get the answer to whether that decision was correct at the end of the season, when the fight for the title becomes even more intense."
