The South African government approved the filing of an application.
The South African Cabinet approved the sports department’s proposal to submit a bid to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Kyalami circuit from 2027 to 2029 — for this period the bid has all the necessary financial guarantees.
"The bid is fully financially backed by a reputable South African private sector and, if successful, will contribute to job creation and economic development.
The very fact that South Africa has been given the opportunity to bid to host the prestigious Formula 1 Grand Prix is confirmation that South Africa is an important global player," said Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni.
We reported that in June this year the Kyalami circuit received a Grade 1 license allowing it to host Formula 1 rounds. Construction work at the circuit to install additional grandstands, a race control building and pit garages is ongoing.
The circuit last hosted the South African Grand Prix in 1993.
