Weather disrupted Pirelli's second day of testing.
The forecast promised a deterioration in the weather on the second day of Pirelli’s tests in Monza, and it came true – the drivers completed only half a day of the Italian tyre maker’s programme. But Pirelli had also seen the forecast, and most of the programme had been run the day before, so in the end the tests were completed without setbacks.
On the morning of the second day it was raining, so the remaining drivers on track, Carlos Sainz in the Williams and Isack Hadjar in the Racing Bulls, ran on intermediate tyres. When the track dried they were able to determine the optimal moment to switch from intermediates to slicks, and then tested compounds for a dry track.
Carlos Sainz completed 57 laps with a best time of 1:22.108. Hadjar completed 56 laps – his best was 1:23.825.
Over the two days Pirelli’s engineers managed to collect the data needed for further compound optimisation. Slick tyre tests for 2026 will continue in late September at Mugello – there Pirelli will work with harder compounds, and at the tests after the Mexican Grand Prix with softer ones.
