Alpine is not considering Mick Schumacher's candidacy.
Acting Alpine team principal Flavio Briatore confirmed that Mick Schumacher is not on the list of potential teammates for Pierre Gasly in 2026. Although Mick races for Alpine’s factory team in endurance events, there are no Formula 1 vacancies for him.
Briatore added that he is unhappy with Franco Colapinto’s results, yet listed him among the candidates for a race seat next season.
“In the beginning of the season Jack Doohan had too many crashes,” says Flavio Briatore. “At the very start Colapinto also disappointed. We thought he would perform better. Now he’s gradually picking up speed as he gets to know the car better and feels more comfortable behind the wheel.
We underestimated the pressure young drivers are under. Alpine is a factory team, so the pressure is even higher, and in a difficult season it multiplies. It’s easier for rookies to settle in at smaller teams — look at Isack Hadjar and Gabriel Bortoleto.
I continue to look at options. Maybe I should sign a driver from Formula E? But seriously, we continue to study options.
Two experienced drivers have already signed with Cadillac. We’ll see how our young drivers show up by the end of the season. We have Colapinto, we have Paul Aron, and we will test Doohan again.”
Answering a direct question about Mick Schumacher’s prospects, Flavio was brief: “He’s not on our list.”
