Bernie Ecclestone disagrees with Felipe Massa's claims about a cover-up of the fact that Nelson Piquet's crash in Singapore ’08 was deliberate, and does not understand what exactly the driver and his lawyer will present at the trial that begins on October 28...
Bernie Ecclestone: "My lawyers, the lawyers for the FIA and Formula 1 do not understand how this can be dealt with in court. Massa refers to an interview I gave to someone in Germany, but that journalist didn't speak English very well. He published the piece, and someone in England picked it up.
Sometimes things happen in life that you wish you could undo, but nobody in the world can change or cancel that race. At the time there was no reason to try to persuade FIA president Max Mosley to convene a special meeting at which the FIA would have to annul the race results. Max knew there wasn't enough evidence at that time to do anything. It appeared later, when young Nelson decided to say something after finding out he had been left without a contract for the following year.
Max never said we should hide what happened; he only said that it was bad for Formula 1's image."
