The FIA president is concerned about the increase in the number of sprints.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed concern about the difficulties that will inevitably arise if the number of sprint rounds is increased in the future.

Stefano Domenicali spoke of such a prospect, noting that the championship organisers intend to continue adjusting the race weekend format to more actively attract the attention of new fans. Discussions on the topic are ongoing, and one option under consideration is doubling the number of sprints.

At present, six rounds with sprints are included in the season calendar, the same number is planned for 2026, but by 2027 there could already be more short Saturday races.

The FIA president has his own view on the matter.

"First of all, I always think about the fact that it will place an additional burden on our personnel," he commented on Viaplay. "FIA staff already spend a lot of time travelling. But we must also ask: will it (i.e., an increase in the number of sprint rounds) be good for the teams in the championship?"

The championship calendar currently consists of 24 rounds — the maximum provided for by the current Concorde Agreement — but even this is associated with very serious strains on team personnel, who spend a significant part of the year on the road.
