Mick Schumacher is preparing for his first tests in IndyCar
On Monday, October 13, Mick Schumacher will get behind the wheel of an IndyCar for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) to take part in tests in the American IndyCar series for the first time in his career.
The tests will take place at the Indianapolis circuit on the "stadium" configuration of the track, comparable to the one that once hosted Formula 1 races. The remaining days the son of the seven-time world champion will spend at the RLL base preparing and studying the technical details, i.e., familiarizing himself with the controls of the Dallara DW12.
He will also work on the simulator at Honda Racing Corporation's U.S. base.
"Mick arrives tomorrow and from eight in the morning until noon will undergo a seat fitting at our base, after which we will go with him to where the simulator is located, and that work will last from one p.m. to five p.m.," Jay Fry, president of RLL, told Racer the day before. "Our engineers will be with us; they will spend the second half of the day with Mick so he is well prepared for what awaits him on Monday.
Then he will return to our base on Saturday, and we will continue studying the car. Together with the engineers he will become more familiar in detail with the chassis layout, with its on-track dynamics, and will receive all the necessary information.
Everyone on the team is excited about the prospect of working with Mick on the tests, and Honda plays an important role in this. Their simulator was switched off because certain service work was being carried out on it, but they sped up that process so Mick would have the opportunity to spend some time on the simulator. We are very grateful to the Honda specialists for that."
On Monday Mick will be assisted by young British driver Louis Foster, who was named IndyCar's "Rookie of the Year" at the end of the season.
"Louis will be there to help Mick get answers to any questions he may have. There will be no shortage of specialists on Monday to introduce Mick to our world and help him feel comfortable behind the wheel. It's an important day for all of us."
