Steiner: McLaren needs to back Piastri
Former Haas F1 boss Günther Steiner believes McLaren should stop talking about driver equality and back the one who's ahead so as not to lose the title to Verstappen.
Günther Steiner: "I think they need to back Piastri to win the championship. If McLaren ultimately loses the title, they'll be left with two unhappy drivers, whereas if they favour one of them, only one will be unhappy. I have nothing against Lando, but Piastri simply has more points.
"'Papaya rules?'" Usually they work, but what they did in Singapore, when the drivers collided and nothing happened, looked strange. Personally, I'm glad the team didn't intervene, but rules are either there or they're not. You have to act consistently, otherwise they don't work. And I understand Oscar's displeasure caused by past team decisions. Although when the team intervenes, it's no longer racing."
