Fernando Alonso: It won't be any easier for us in Mexico

      Fernando Alonso said the 2025 season is not worthy of being remembered; the Spanish Aston Martin driver was not particularly optimistic about his team's prospects at the Mexico round.

      Fernando Alonso: "I want to say that we are very critical of our work. For almost the entire 2025 season we've been performing poorly and we don't hide that we are not fast enough — that's a fact. But at the same time, every weekend we make every possible effort, using the machinery available to us.

      We try to achieve some results, and in Austin that was 10th place — so we scored one point. Sometimes we manage to pick up a couple of points, but I don't think there's anything to be happy about. The season is proving difficult, and the rest of it will be the same.

      It won't be any easier for us in Mexico. I think that when a sprint is part of the weekend program it's even better for us, because right now the cars of all ten teams have largely reached the limits of their capabilities. Experimenting with setups doesn't yield much anymore. This regulations package has been in force for four years, and over the course of this season the pace of development hasn't been that high, and we know exactly how to squeeze out everything the car is capable of.

      So it is precisely on sprint weekend days that we have the opportunity to adapt faster than our rivals. All drivers who know the tracks well can rely on their experience to achieve decent speeds as early as Friday.

      I don't think that during a normal race weekend there is an opportunity to learn anything new about the car or the setups. In my view the car is almost always set up more or less optimally and works roughly the same on the first lap as on the last.

      But speaking about the upcoming weekend, I don't yet know how it will turn out. Of course, we have certain reasons to be concerned. In the two previous years we were not competitive in either Mexico or Las Vegas. Of the remaining races, we are most worried about those two Grands Prix."

      When Alonso was asked whether he likes that the World Championship regulations change every few years, he answered negatively: "No, I prefer the regulations to remain more stable. I'm also thinking about the fans, because as soon as they start to understand something about the cars of this generation or have time to get used to the weekend format, we change something again.

      And explaining in simple terms the technologies embodied in our cars is quite difficult, but technology is the DNA of Formula 1, and it has always been that way. I hope that when the new technical regulations come into force the races will become more spectacular, because that's what the public wants to see."
