Berman: We got the most out of the car in qualifying.
In Mexico, Oliver Berman reached the qualifying final for the third time in a row, where he posted the tenth-fastest time. The Haas driver is pleased with the result and is looking to the race with optimism, in which he intends to fight for points.
His teammate Esteban Ocon qualified twelfth and complained that he was held up by traffic on his decisive fast lap.
Oliver Berman (10th): “Overall I’m happy. I think we got the maximum out of the car, and I really liked how I drove the lap. I went out first on the run, which wasn’t ideal, but I don’t think the lap pace would have allowed me to contend for more than ninth or tenth.
I’m optimistic about the race, given the full-fuel pace we showed in Friday’s practice. Good pace, so I’m looking forward to the start.”
Esteban Ocon (12th): “Great job by the team. We significantly improved the qualifying pace, which I’ve been struggling with recently. The car handled great during qualifying, so I’m happy.
I was really unlucky not to make the final. On the second fast lap in the second session I had good pace, I was fifth, but the lap fell apart because I got into the ‘dirty’ air behind Yuki Tsunoda and Charles Leclerc. They didn’t do anything wrong — I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and lost the rear of the car in the final sector.
I was three hundredths of a second short of making the final. If I’d posted the same time on that sector as on the previous laps, I think I would have been fifth.”
