Max Verstappen: We need to realistically assess the chances.

Max Verstappen admitted he will need some luck to get ahead of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in the fight for the title.

With four rounds remaining, the Red Bull Racing driver is 36 points behind the leader of the drivers' standings, Norris. Thus, Verstappen must on average make up nine points per weekend on the McLaren drivers to become champion.

"We've had a few good races, cutting the gap, but it's still large and there are only four races left in the season," Max Verstappen told the press in the Interlagos paddock. "Every weekend I have to score a lot more points [than Norris and Piastri], which is not that easy to do.

If we had the same advantage now as in 2023, and I needed to make up 36 points in four races, I'd say, 'No problem, easy.' But this season is somewhat different, so it all comes down to having perfect weekends.

We may need a bit of luck at one of the races to make up extra points, but we also have to give our maximum every time. I don't know if that will be enough at the end of the year, but I have nothing to lose. In the worst case I'll finish third, in the best — I'll win the title.

I don't feel the pressure. Even if I don't become champion, I can still call the season a good one. But you have to be realistic about the chances — the task is very difficult.

It's notable in itself that after a season like this we're talking about continuing the fight. Of course, that's linked to changes in the team, which did not give up, and that's its strength. It's all very impressive."
