Pirelli limited the distance for one set of tires.

Pirelli has decided to limit the distance that can be covered on a single set of tyres at the Qatar Grand Prix. The move was preliminarily agreed with the FIA and Formula 1.

At the Losail circuit no more than 25 laps may be completed on each set of tyres. The decision was taken because the Qatar track subjects the tyres to increased loads related to overloading and temperature, which leads to increased wear.

The 25-lap limit will be counted cumulatively for the whole session, including laps behind the actual or virtual safety car. Laps to the starting grid, formation laps and laps after the chequered flag in the sprint and race will not be counted.

Since the Qatar Grand Prix distance is 57 laps, each driver will have to change tyres at least twice. Before the start of the race Pirelli will inform the teams how many laps remain to be run on each set.

Such measures were deemed necessary after analysis of the tyres used in Qatar in 2024. Last year several tyres, especially the front-left, reached the maximum level of wear. These factors, combined with the high lateral energy acting on the tyres, increased structural fatigue, and in some cases the tyres covered distances exceeding their service life.

Similar precautions were already introduced at the Qatar circuit in 2023, but to address different issues. That year repeated running over certain kerbs caused micro-cuts to tyre sidewalls. Modifications to the pyramid kerbs and the addition of gravel traps around them last year helped prevent a recurrence of that situation.

Pirelli will bring the hardest compounds to Qatar: C1, C2 and C3. As the weekend will be run in a sprint format, each driver will receive two sets of Hard, four sets of Medium and six sets of Soft.
