Speculation about a potential Sainz return

Spanish media are reporting that doubts have resurfaced within Ferrari regarding the decision to replace Carlos Sainz with Lewis Hamilton, even suggesting the possibility of Sainz returning in the future. Marca states that "two weeks ago, it was reported that Ferrari had recent discussions with Carlos Sainz," although Sainz’s representatives swiftly denied any contact.

The rumors increased following the Qatar race, where Piero Ferrari was seen speaking with Sainz’s well-known father. This comes after Hamilton's disappointing first season at Maranello, while Sainz, now a Williams driver until at least 2026, has achieved surprising podium finishes in 2025, with Williams comfortably positioned fifth in the championship.

Team principal Frederic Vasseur has previously indicated that a reunion is possible. "It could happen in two years when we will need to look for a driver again, and he’ll likely be on the list," he mentioned earlier this year.

Nonetheless, Sainz appears to be very satisfied with his situation at Williams. Following another unexpected podium finish in Qatar, he told DAZN: "If you had told me last year when I signed the contract - remember Spa? - that we would secure three podiums, be fifth in the World Championship, and occasionally compete with Ferrari, Mercedes, and McLaren ... I would have signed immediately.

"And I did. I joined Williams for a reason. I recognized the team's potential, and I knew I could contribute. I’m in a good position for my career."
