Alejandro Agag: Formula 1 should return to V8
The founder of the electric Formula E, Alejandro Agag, believes that Formula 1 has taken a wrong turn with the new regulations. According to the Spaniard, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff largely lobbied for the transition to new generation power units.
Alejandro Agag: "When Mercedes left Formula E, they did so because they wanted to copy our concept and transfer it to Formula 1. The main source of inspiration for everything happening in Formula 1 is Mercedes and Toto Wolff.
Toto was with us, saw what was happening, and said: 'I will bring this to Formula 1. I will merge Formula 1 and Formula E.' Since it was his idea, now his team has the advantage, which is evident from the speed difference with the others.
I believe that such regulations are not suitable for Formula 1. Formula 1 should return to a big and loud internal combustion engine, to V8... Let Formula E remain the championship for electric cars. Right now, Formula 1 is stuck between two extremes – neither one nor the other."
