Formula E: Nick Cassidy won the first pole for Citroen
The first qualifying session in the history of Formula E at the Spanish racetrack Circuito de Madrid Jarama was won by Nick Cassidy, the New Zealand driver for Citroen Racing. This also marked the first such achievement for the new factory team of the French company with a rich history. For Cassidy, this is already his 8th pole in the electric series.
In the final qualifying session, a fierce rivalry unfolded between him and Nick de Vries, representing the Indian team Mahindra, but Cassidy came out on top, completing a lap in 1:37.141, 0.266 seconds faster.
They will start on the track in Jarama from the front row, with António Félix da Costa (Jaguar) and Norman Nato (Nissan) starting from the second row, and Edoardo Mortara, de Vries's teammate, and Pascal Wehrlein, the Porsche driver leading the individual standings, starting from the third row.
Thanks to the three points for pole position, Cassidy has already climbed to third place in the standings, ahead of Oliver Rowland, Nato's teammate and the reigning world champion.
