'Daddy' Alonso speaks about the arrival of his first child.
"All went smoothly for both the mother and the baby."
Fernando Alonso has announced the arrival of his first child after arriving late in Suzuka, following his absence on Thursday. Fellow driver Franco Colapinto shared the news in the paddock even before Alonso's arrival in Japan. "Alonso is a dad! I have all the gossip," joked the Alpine driver. "I’m going to call him ’daddy’." Alonso later verified the news to DAZN, revealing he had just arrived in the country. "I’m still a bit jet-lagged since I landed here this morning. Fortunately, it will be evening soon, so I can catch up on my sleep." The 44-year-old mentioned that both his partner Melissa Jimenez and the newborn are doing well. "You never really expect anything specific. Things just unfold as they will, and there’s always some stress and worry to ensure that everything is okay. Everything went well for the mother and the baby. It’s a very happy and special moment." However, Alonso quickly shifted his attention back to racing issues, with Aston Martin's challenges alongside Honda persisting at Suzuka. "In FP2, we didn’t have a great feeling about the car. It’s still pretty much the same as before. We’ve brought a few upgrade parts," he remarked. With ongoing vibration and reliability issues, expectations remain cautious at Honda's home event. "It’s Honda’s home race too. During this challenging time we’re experiencing, we have to be here, we have to support them, and hopefully complete the race for the first time this year. Finishing all the laps is the aim," Alonso added.
