This year, Subaru has made significant strides in electric vehicles: the updated Solterra was the first to arrive, followed by the 2026 Uncharted and the 2026 Trailseeker, which we discussed last month.

Now, we have the most notable EV news of all—the three-row, seven-seat 2027 Subaru Getaway. Its platform is identical to that of the Toyota Highlander EV, including the battery and motors that make it the most powerful Subaru to date.

Expected to arrive later this year, the 2027 Getaway will feature a dual-motor configuration paired with a 95.8-kWh lithium-ion battery. With a NACS charging port, this 420-hp model is estimated to have a range of over 300 miles on a full charge. That positions it competitively against key rivals; however, its charging rate is capped at 150 kW, implying that charging from 10% to 80% could take around half an hour. Early next year, a 77.0-kWh battery pack option will be introduced, retaining the dual-motor setup and Subaru's signature all-wheel drive.

To enhance its off-road capabilities, Subaru has elevated the Getaway's roof and underbody, achieving 8.3 inches of ground clearance. Its X-Mode traction system includes Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes, and integrates technology with Grip Control and downhill-assist features from the Trailseeker, ensuring stability across various road conditions. Subaru claims it can tow up to 3,500 pounds, or accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds.

The elegantly designed Getaway—truly one of Subaru’s finest designs—features a spacious interior. The cockpit includes a 12.3-inch digital display along with a 14.0-inch central touchscreen for front-seat occupants to customize settings, whether for Apple CarPlay navigation or Spotify playlists. In the second row, a bench seat can replace the standard captain’s chairs; with either option, a button press allows the seat to move for easier access to the third row. Subaru assures that the rear seat accommodates even six-foot passengers, and folds down to expand the storage space from 15.9 cubic feet to 45.6 cubic feet.

Pricing details are still pending, but the 2027 Getaway is set to compete with models like the Kia EV9, Hyundai Ioniq 9, and naturally, the Toyota Highlander EV. When it launches later this year, the Getaway will come equipped with standard 19- or 20-inch wheels, ambient lighting, multiple USB-C charging ports, adaptive cruise control, dual wireless smartphone charging pads, and available options for a rearview camera, panoramic glass roof, heated second- and third-row seats, and cooled front and second-row seats.
