This year, Subaru has made significant strides in electric vehicles, introducing an updated Solterra first, followed by the 2026 Uncharted and 2026 Trailseeker that we discussed last month.
Now, we have the most significant EV announcement yet: the three-row, seven-seat 2027 Subaru Getaway. Its powertrain is shared with the Toyota Highlander EV, including the battery pack and motors, making it Subaru’s most powerful vehicle to date.
Set to debut later this year, the 2027 Getaway will feature a dual-motor setup combined with a 95.8-kWh lithium-ion battery. Equipped with a NACS charge port, this 420-hp Getaway boasts an expected range exceeding 300 miles on a full charge. That aligns it with some of its key competitors, but its charging speed is capped at 150 kW, meaning it may take about half an hour to charge from 10% to 80%. In early 2024, the Getaway will also offer a 77.0-kWh battery option while maintaining a dual-motor setup and Subaru’s signature all-wheel drive.
To enhance off-road capability, Subaru has elevated both the roof and underbody of the Getaway, providing 8.3 inches of ground clearance. Its X-Mode traction system features Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes and integrates Grip Control and downhill-assist functions from the Trailseeker to ensure stability on various surfaces. Subaru claims it can tow up to 3,500 pounds or accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds.
The stylishly designed Getaway—truly one of Subaru’s best-looking models—features a spacious interior. The cockpit includes a 12.3-inch digital display and a 14.0-inch central touchscreen for front-seat passengers to manage, whether planning Apple CarPlay routes or playing Spotify playlists. The second row can have a bench seat instead of standard captain’s chairs, and a button press allows the seats to move out of the way for easier access to the third row. Subaru assures that the last row is accommodating for individuals up to six feet tall and can fold down to expand storage from 15.9 cubic feet to 45.6 cubic feet.
While prices are not yet confirmed, the 2027 Getaway will compete with models like the Kia EV9, Hyundai Ioniq 9, and, of course, the Toyota Highlander EV. When it launches later this year, the Getaway will come standard with 19- or 20-inch wheels, ambient lighting, multiple USB-C charging ports, adaptive cruise control, dual wireless smartphone charging pads, and optional features like a rearview camera, a panoramic glass roof, heated second- and third-row seats, and cooled front and second-row seats.
