Gina Schumacher shares insights about her father in a new, seldom-seen documentary.

"I really immersed myself in it because I needed to take action."

A rare and heartfelt glimpse into Michael Schumacher's life has come to light, with his daughter Gina-Maria openly discussing her coping mechanisms following her father's accident in 2013. The German broadcaster ZDF has created "Horsepower - The World of Gina Schumacher," providing an unusually intimate perspective on the typically private family.

As revealed in an exclusive preview by Bild newspaper, the 29-year-old shares how she relied on her love for horses during one of the toughest times in her life. "After Dad’s accident, I really immersed myself in it because I needed to take action," Gina recounted. "The horses have always been significant to me. But since then, they've truly become... I mean, I couldn’t live without horses. They helped me navigate through everything."

Her mother, Corinna, also recalls a poignant prediction made by seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher. "Michael once told me when Gina was 10, ‘Gina will be much better than you,’" she remembered. His reasoning offered insight. "Because she’s more selfish. If you’re an athlete, you have to be selfish to some extent. And that’s fantastic. Otherwise, you won’t achieve anything."

Corinna added, "Now I think, 'He was so right.'”

Now one of the top Western riders in the world, Gina remains humble despite her achievements. "I’m thankful that I can pursue this. My parents made it possible," she said. "That’s why it's always been important for me to put in the effort in this field, so that I can excel as much as possible."
