Father of Pérez announced ambitions to become the president of Mexico.
Antonio Perez, the father of Cadillac team driver Sergio Perez, has announced his ambitions to become the president of Mexico.
Perez Sr. is no stranger to politics – he is currently a member of Mexico's ruling party "National Regeneration Movement," also known as "Morena." It is believed that through his connections, Antonio Perez was able to negotiate with Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim for support of his son's racing career when he was taking his first steps in motorsport.
On Monday, Perez Sr. wrote on social media about his desire to run for president in 2030, but immediately clarified that he supports Claudia Sheinbaum, the current and first female president of Mexico. Later, in comments to the daily newspaper El Siglo de Torreon, the driver’s father explained his words.
"Yes, it is my dream," says Antonio Perez. "My dream is to one day become the president of Mexico, just as I once dreamed of my son becoming a Formula 1 driver.
When I say that I want to run for president of Mexico, people tell me that I am crazy. But I like to do what others do not. I am one of those people who do what others do not dare to do."
