Kvyat's team finished 6th in the first stage of Super GT.
This weekend, the first stage of the new Super GT season took place at the Okayama International Circuit in Japan, and local drivers achieved success in both classes of the national touring car series. It was quite expected that in GT500, the reigning champions Sho Tsuboi and Kenta Yamashita, representing the TOM’S team in the factory-prepared Toyota GR Supra, took the victory. These experienced masters have won races at this track for the past three years – Yamashita even set a statistical record, becoming the driver with the most wins in Okayama. In the GT300 class, the best was the international crew of the D’Station Racing team consisting of Tomonobu Fujii and British driver Charlie Fagg. In their Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo, they first secured pole position and then won the race. It is worth mentioning the crew that finished 3rd in this category, as Katsuto Kotaka's partner was Miki Koyama, and they took turns piloting the Lexus LC500h with the number 31. Some may remember Miki Koyama from the women’s W Series, but now she competes in Super GT and today became only the third woman in the history of this series to reach the podium. Daniil Kvyat is unlikely to be satisfied with 6th place in his debut race in GT300; however, even considering all his experience and professionalism, it should be noted that he is competing in this Japanese series for the first time and probably hasn’t fully adapted yet. The Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 crew consisting of Takashi Kogure and Kvyat didn’t lose much to the leaders, but most importantly, Daniil gained experience that will be useful to him in the future. Moreover, observers noted that he raced quite competitively in his first race. The next stage of the Super GT season will take place on the first weekend of May at the Fuji circuit.
