The Peugeot team will remain in WEC until 2029.
The management of the sports programs of the French company Peugeot is set to announce its plans for 2027 regarding the World Endurance Championship in the coming weeks. But for now, the focus is solely on the modernization of the hypercar 9X8, as the main course remains unchanged – the factory team will stay in the WEC until the end of 2029.
"When the time comes, we will announce our plans," said Olivier Janson, technical director of Peugeot Sport. "The good news is that Peugeot remains in the WEC until the end of 2029, so plans for 2027 are a different topic. We are sticking to the plans that were decided a few months ago.
We are preparing a range of technical innovations, but I cannot share detailed information yet, and we will announce everything when we are ready. Everything will happen in a few weeks, so for now, please be patient."
It is worth reminding that Peugeot has little to boast about in sports terms – last season, the team finished second to last in the World Endurance Championship.
This weekend, a new season of the WEC kicks off in Imola, and following the so-called "prologue," Janson said: "From what we saw in the prologue, some cars are definitely ahead of us, but in the rest of the peloton, from 4th to 15th position, the results are very tight. Especially on this track, qualifying results will significantly impact the weekend's outcomes, as there are few overtaking opportunities in Imola.
I will refrain from making specific predictions, but we intend to focus on our tasks and execute everything we need to as clearly as possible."
