"The impact occurs with a delay."

Toto Wolff has responded to the wave of criticism that led Formula 1 to adjust its rules for 2026. After the FIA decided to implement changes starting from Miami, Wolff expressed discomfort with how the sport has been criticized in public. "We must recognize our responsibility as the stewards of this sport," stated the Mercedes team principal. "We all have our viewpoints, which are entirely valid. However, these discussions should remain among those involved rather than being aired publicly." He cautioned that such public negativity could have detrimental effects on the long-term viability of Formula 1. "We have thousands of fans who cherish the sport—there are also some who are not as enthusiastic right now—but to safeguard the future, we should refrain from publicly disparaging the sport. The impact is delayed. That is our duty." Wolff also indicated he was relieved that the changes would be limited. "We want to operate with precision rather than with a heavy hand," he remarked.

On the other hand, former driver Ralf Schumacher perceives the situation quite differently. "From a purely political standpoint, Formula 1 made a significant error by allowing this outcome from the outset when it stated there was room for improvement," he stated. "It feels as though you are relinquishing your own regulations rather than defending them. It's akin to making a statement in a company, then reversing your stance and retracting it." Meanwhile, the criticism within the paddock remains widespread. Aston Martin simulator driver Dani Juncadella remarked to Diario Sport that many traditional fans feel alienated. "The issue also involves the type of fan we aim to attract. The genuine fan we once had in Formula 1, I don’t believe they support the current regulations," he commented.
