Jacky X: If there's an audience, then everything is fine.

British Motorsport quotes former Formula 1 driver and Le Mans winner Jackie Ickx, who is calm about the changes in regulations and believes that the main thing is an interesting battle on the track…

Jackie Ickx: “One should not make the mistake of comparing yesterday's Formula 1 with today's. My opinion doesn’t matter. What’s important is how the public perceives it. The audience is a key factor. If there is great interest in Formula 1, then everything is fine. Without the public, nothing can be done. If there is an audience, then everything is okay.

In my time, the dashboard displayed only four parameters. It was a completely different era compared to today, when drivers have to think about many more factors. But it is the viewers who are the key to the success of motorsport.

I believe that people really don’t care what goes on behind the scenes. What matters is what happens on the track – how interesting and intense the battles between the drivers are. That’s all that matters. And we must admit – we have never seen such high attendance.”
