Brown elaborates on Lambiase's position, downplaying the connection to Verstappen.
"Andrea presently holds three roles in one"
Zak Brown has provided clarity regarding the future position of Gianpiero Lambiase at McLaren, addressing rumors about his potential replacement of team principal Andrea Stella. Brown confirmed that Verstappen’s long-time race engineer is expected to take on a significant leadership position sooner than the previously suggested 2028 timeline. "He (Lambiase) and I don’t know if Andrea has already mentioned this, will oversee the racing aspect," he explained. "Andrea indeed has three roles combined at the moment. We often mention two, but he is the team principal, leads the racing team, and also serves a significant function similar to that of a technical director." Brown emphasized that Stella will continue to be a vital part of the organization. "Andrea is essentially the glue that keeps everything together," he remarked. "His role as team principal has significantly expanded in recent years." However, he acknowledged that the responsibilities have become too burdensome for one individual. "Andrea is certainly capable of two roles, but giving him a third might be too much. That’s why GP is joining us, and he will have a substantial role here." Brown also reiterated his stance against fostering closer ties between teams amid rumors of Mercedes' interest in Alpine. "This applies to anyone and everyone, A-B teams, co-ownership," he stated. "No matter who it is, I frown upon it. I don’t think it’s healthy for the sport." Notably, he expressed support for the possible return of former adversary Christian Horner, despite their past conflicts. "He’s an excellent operator, and his track record is impressive," Brown noted. "I believe it would be fantastic to see him back in the sport. I'd be surprised if he doesn't return, whether it’s with Alpine or another team." With Lambiase’s impending arrival intensifying speculation regarding Max Verstappen, Brown played down the likelihood of the Dutchman also joining McLaren. "If I were to make a wager, I’d say Max would end up at Mercedes," he remarked.
