Ocon expresses disappointment over an 'unlucky' beginning, while the clash between Bearman and Colapinto continues to be a topic of discussion.
"The most crucial aspect is that he is okay."
Esteban Ocon acknowledges that his 2026 season has gotten off to a rocky start, but stresses that luck, not his performance, is the real issue. The seasoned 29-year-old French driver is already being identified as one of the notable underachievers of 2026, with growing concerns about his future on the grid after this season.
"It’s likely the unluckiest start to a season I’ve ever experienced, especially after having such a strong race at Suzuka, only to have the safety car deployed at the worst moment," said the Haas driver.
"Although it hasn’t been rewarded, the internal efforts and our work were the positive aspects. We were on the right track."
So far, Ocon has secured just 1 point, falling behind his teammate Oliver Bearman, who has made a strong impression and is often regarded as a potential future Ferrari driver.
Nonetheless, Bearman’s severe crash at Suzuka—an event that has prompted changes to the Miami race rules—continues to have repercussions.
"It’s fantastic to witness overtaking and a good spectacle, but we shouldn't see one car approaching another at a 50 kph higher speed," Ocon remarked.
"In the past, speed differences built up along the straight, culminating at the end. However, since the beginning of this season, we've suddenly seen these speed variations in unusual positions."
The incident itself remains a contentious point. Bearman criticized Franco Colapinto after the crash, labeling the situation as "unacceptable" following the close call that preceded his collision. Colapinto has now disclosed that the two have not communicated since.
"I’ll just mention that I sent him a message right after the race. He never replied, so he didn’t talk to me. I did try to reach out," he shared.
"No, I’ve already addressed it. I think the key point is that he was okay. I won’t comment further on it."
Reflecting on the incident, the Argentine also pointed out the challenges drivers are facing under the current regulations.
"With the current approach speeds, you glance in the rearview mirror for a moment, and before you know it, the car is just 20 meters behind you," he explained.
"I believe both share some responsibility. But I want to stress that at no point during that corner did I act aggressively in a manner that could have led to the incident or caused the crash."
