James Vowles: No one could understand what was happening!

The Miami Grand Prix was the best race for Williams this season – points were earned by both Carlos Sainz, finishing in 9th place, and Alex Albon, who finished 10th. The results of the American weekend were commented on by James Vowles, the team principal…

James Vowles: “Carlos and Alex did a great job! This was the maximum we could have hoped for, and these results are a real reward for all the work the team has done over the past five weeks as we tried to maximize the car's speed in preparation for Miami.

I want to assure everyone that work on technical innovations will continue, although it’s not certain that this will manifest in Canada, but we have developed a detailed upgrade program for the FW-48, scheduled up to the August break. We will try to implement updates as quickly as possible.

Fortunately, the team is represented by two high-class professionals who work effectively together, and although three points from the Miami stage is not much, it is just the beginning of the journey.

Personally, I think the race was very interesting; it was truly spectacular – no one could understand what was happening! (laughs) We saw a storm front approaching the track, we saw the rain starting, and there were moments when all the teams were very actively communicating with their drivers, as it seemed that the rain was going to intensify and become more intense than it was around turns 8 to 12.

Overall, it was a good race, but it will get even more interesting from here, and I am already looking forward to the fact that the season will likely start entering a more intense phase.”
