Max Verstappen: We are going to the Nurburgring for victory.
This weekend, Max Verstappen will participate in the 24-hour marathon "24 Hours of Nürburgring" on the Nordschleife as part of the Verstappen Racing team alongside teammates Lukas Auer, Jules Gounon, and Daniel Hünkadel. The start of the warm-up lap is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, at 14:40 local time (15:40 MSK), and the race will start at 15:00 (16:00 MSK).
For the Red Bull Racing driver, this is his first participation in a 24-hour marathon, but he has set a specific goal – to win.
Max Verstappen: "It's simple – victory will be a success. That's why we are participating in the marathon. I know it won't be easy, but that's the goal. At the same time, I'm looking forward to the whole experience, the opportunity to share the car with my teammates, and working together throughout the weekend. Let's see what we can achieve.
What inspires me the most is that the race will take place on one of the best tracks in the world. Or, if you like, the craziest track in the world. It's one of those special races that you want to participate in and win.
For me, it all started with the simulator, learning the track. I drove thousands of laps, participated in numerous 24-hour races at the Nürburgring on the simulator. So, when I first hit the track in real life, knowing the track and where to go was no longer a problem.
The main thing was to understand the characteristics of the new curbs and the level of grip because every year new asphalt is laid in certain places. And, of course, to understand the real car with the g-forces, compressions, and things like that. But, undoubtedly, racing on the simulator helped me immediately find my pace."
