Max Verstappen met the requirements for starting eligibility.
On Thursday evening, the second part of the qualification for the "24 Hours of Nürburgring" marathon took place on the "Northern Loop." The session was held after sunset and was significant for the drivers, including Max Verstappen. According to the regulations, each driver must complete a lap during the dark to qualify for the start. Conditions on the track were less than ideal due to heavy rain, so Verstappen's crew spent most of the session in the pits, waiting for the weather to improve.
Max did eventually take to the track, but the asphalt remained quite wet, so the four-time world champion carefully completed a lap to meet the regulatory requirement and returned to the pits.
As a result of the two qualifications on Thursday, Verstappen Racing remained in third place in the overall standings. This means that the team advanced to the decisive Friday qualification, where the 49 fastest crews from Thursday will compete for the first 49 starting positions.
Friday's qualification consists of three sessions – the top 20 crews will advance to the second session, and 12 will move on to the final. Unless any surprises occur, Verstappen's crew will be competing for pole position in the final.
