Formula E: Ticktum claimed his second consecutive pole in Monaco
Dan Ticktum continues to amaze with his speed in the corners of the classic street circuit in Monaco: today, the British driver for Cupra Kiro secured his second consecutive pole position. Yesterday, he was unable to capitalize on this advantage, partly because Nyck de Vries, starting from second position, outmaneuvered him tactically, but today's race will take place without a mandatory pit stop, the so-called Pit Boost, during which a quick battery recharge occurs. Perhaps it will be a bit easier to solve tactical tasks on Sunday – however, it all depends on how events unfold.
In the meantime, Dan stated that he drove one of the best laps of his life – and this is no exaggeration, as in the final qualifying session, he outpaced António Félix da Costa, the Jaguar driver, by almost seven-tenths of a second. So far, this is the largest advantage recorded in qualifying this season.
Interestingly, yesterday Ticktum was penalized and dropped from the third position, where he finished the race, to 12th due to a collision with the Portuguese driver that occurred during a battle for position. After the race, they did not speak to each other, but today their racing electric cars will be lined up next to each other in the front row of the starting grid.
Starting from third position is Edoardo Mortara, the Mahindra driver, who was unable to start on Saturday due to technical issues with his car, while the victory went to his teammate Nyck de Vries. It is safe to assume that Edoardo is determined to make up for yesterday's troubles.
Also from the second row, Jean-Éric Vergne, a two-time Formula E champion racing for Citroen, will start the race, but so far this year he has not distinguished himself. Perhaps today the French veteran of the electric series will be able to show what he is capable of? Until now, he has not managed to rise above 8th place, although his teammate, Nick Cassidy, has already secured one victory and finished in the top three a couple of times.
