Indy 500: Qualification postponed to Sunday
For the first time since 2008, the organizers of the Indy 500 race had to move the Saturday portion of qualifying to Sunday – the races today were interrupted by rain that started in the morning and did not let up all day.
The weather on Sunday is expected to be normal, so the program will start in the morning with two half-hour practice sessions, then at noon local time, qualifying will begin, and initially, all 33 drivers will get only one attempt each. For those who show results from 13th to 33rd, qualifying will end there.
At 4:30 PM, the remaining 12 drivers will continue the fight for a spot in the final, and they will also have one attempt – the results of this session will determine the starting positions from 7th to 12th. At 6:00 PM, the final qualifying session will begin, and again, the six fastest will have only one attempt. The logic is the same, and the one who shows the best time will take the pole.
As confirmed by the IndyCar management, all Saturday tickets and paid parking passes will remain valid.
