The finish of the "24 Hours of Nürburgring" marathon took place under the accompaniment of a dreary drizzle, and overall the weather resembled autumn more, were it not for the green foliage in the Eifel forests through which the Nordschleife circuit runs. However, such weather matched the mood of the Verstappen Racing team and its numerous fans, as Max Verstappen's crew effectively dropped out of the fight for victory 3 hours and 22 minutes before the finish due to a drive shaft failure. It is worth noting that up to that point, the Mercedes sports car with the number 3 was confidently leading the race with a considerable advantage. The team's mechanics did everything they could, and Daniel Huncadella returned to the track just a few minutes before the finish to complete the last lap and see the checkered flag. But this was nothing more than a symbolic gesture. About an hour before the finish, a short message to fans appeared on the team's social media pages: "Thank you all for the incredible support we have felt all week. We are completely devastated that we couldn't make it to the finish, but that's motorsport. Until the next race!" Nevertheless, Huncadella did cross the finish line, but in 38th place and 21 laps behind the leader. Meanwhile, the race was won by the Mercedes-AMG Team Ravenol, specifically car number 80, which was piloted in the final laps by Maro Engel – a seasoned professional who had already won at Nürburgring exactly ten years ago. It was his attacks that Max Verstappen had to fend off at night, and it all ended with contact between their cars. There are already suggestions that the damage to the right drive shaft was a consequence of this collision, although there is no official confirmation of this yet. Mirko Bortolotti finished second in the Lamborghini of the Red Bull Team Abt, while third place went to Italian Mattia Drudi, who, along with his teammates, piloted the Aston Martin of Walkenhorst Motorsport. Max Verstappen still has to comment on the results of today's race and share his feelings about it, while his teammate Daniel Huncadella, after effectively retiring, said: "Of course, my heart is just breaking, as the race was going excellently, simply perfectly. I have dreamed of winning at Nürburgring for a long time, so today is especially disappointing for me. But in motorsport, many factors are beyond your control. On a day like today, you experience painful feelings, but there is no need to dramatize and dwell on it for too long. We will be back next year."
