Lando Norris wants to test a Formula E car.
Last weekend, two Formula E races took place in Monaco, the 9th and 10th stages of the season, and Lando Norris was a special guest of Andretti and Jake Dennis, the leader of the American team and his longtime friend. Moreover, their careers are managed by the same agency, ADD Management.
However, curiosity about the electric series was also shown by other representatives of Formula 1 – both Audi F1 drivers Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hülkenberg were spotted in the paddock, as well as Carlos Sainz and Oliver Berman. By the way, Christian Horner, the former head of Red Bull Racing, was also seen there.
This interest is quite understandable: many of those currently competing in F1 once raced in youth series against drivers who are continuing their careers in Formula E.
"I grew up alongside many of these guys and raced with them," Lando shared during the live broadcast from Monaco while talking to David Coulthard and Karun Chandhok, the hosts. "They are professionals of a very high level, some of the best in the world, many of them have competed in Formula 1, and I love watching Formula E races, I enjoy them.
In fact, I had planned to get behind the wheel of a Formula E car someday and discussed this with Jake Dennis and some other drivers competing in this championship. The electric series has a number of features; not everything here is similar to Formula 1, but you can always learn something useful when talking to the drivers of this series, especially those who have achieved great success."
Yesterday, David Coulthard drove four laps around the Monaco track in the latest Porsche 4th generation (Gen4) racing electric car – these are the cars that Formula E will switch to next season, and Lando asked the Scot to share his impressions.
"The incredible acceleration dynamics are astonishing!" DC replied. "Can you imagine, these cars have all-wheel drive. I was given the opportunity to drive four laps – fortunately, I didn't hit the barriers once. However, there were quite a few accidents during Saturday's Formula E race!"
"Yes, I watched that race without getting off the couch – the track is only two hundred meters from my house," Norris continued. "But this is my first time in the Formula E paddock, and these races are always quite chaotic, there's never a shortage of accidents, and events on the track always unfold unpredictably. In any case, there's everything here that we love about racing."
