George Russell: I am in complete distress...
During the first 29 laps of the Canadian Grand Prix, there was an intriguing battle for the lead between the Mercedes drivers, and at the moment when George Russell's car had a power unit issue, he was in the lead.
Of course, he was very upset, but in an express interview with Sky Sports, he stated that he had reasons to be proud.
George Russell: "As I entered the corner, suddenly everything shut down, the engine stalled, the electronics stopped working, and the brakes lost effectiveness. I just have no words, and I have nothing more to add.
Nevertheless, I am proud of how I performed this weekend. I won the sprint qualifying, won the sprint, secured pole position, and was leading the Grand Prix when the car failed. I overtook Kimi, and it was a good pass – I feel like I did everything possible on my part. I don't think I could have done more this weekend.
So, on one hand, I am satisfied with my work, but on the other, I am completely upset about what happened.
To be honest, I really enjoyed the rivalry with Kimi; it reminded me of karting days – there were no contacts between our cars, but everything was very close! That's how racing should be, and our battle could have continued for another thirty laps..."
