The new Honda engine will be ready for the summer break.
Previously, Honda did not even mention approximate timelines for the readiness of the new version of the power unit, but in Canada, the chief engineer and head of the Honda Racing team, Shintaro Orihara, stated that the work is planned to be completed by the summer break.
The first stage after the break is the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, and by that date, the team is preparing a new version of the aerodynamic package.
Shintaro Orihara: "We know what we need to improve. First of all, we need to optimize the fuel combustion process. We know how to do this, we have ideas for improving combustion characteristics, and the data shows positive results. Additionally, we need to reduce friction to increase efficiency. The engineers at the base have a whole list of tasks, and we are working on improving all aspects.
Development is a long-term process, but we are no longer talking about the end of the season. We will see some progress sooner, around the summer break – that is our goal.
We are pleased that in Canada, both cars did not have serious problems with the power units, and there is progress in terms of handling. However, there remains a gap between the drivers' requirements and our results, so the next step will be to continue working on improving handling. We know which direction we need to move in."
