McLaren is determined to fight until the end of the season in Abu Dhabi.

In Canada, McLaren drivers were able to earn points only in the Saturday sprint, but they failed to replicate this on Sunday, and it all started with the team making a clear miscalculation in their tactical choice. At the start of the Grand Prix, their cars were fitted with intermediate tires, but the rain stopped almost immediately, forcing the drivers to make an unnecessary pit stop. Oscar Piastri, who ultimately finished outside the points, partly due to a 10-second penalty for colliding with Williams driver Alex Albon, did not hide his doubts about the tire choice during a radio exchange with his engineer before the start, but it was already too late to change anything. Lando Norris didn't even make it to the finish – on lap 38, his MCL40 suffered a gearbox failure. Nevertheless, Andrea Stella, the team principal, remains optimistic and believes that the team still has a chance to win the championship. "Certainly, the start of the season has been challenging," he is quoted by the American publication Racer. "We are facing various problems; in the first race, Oscar had difficulties when he was on the starting grid. Then, the Chinese round of the championship turned out to be particularly painful when both cars had electrical issues with their power units. In Canada, we faced difficulties in all areas, from purely sporting aspects to reliability. Of course, we learned important lessons and have a lot to analyze. At the same time, there are several encouraging signs regarding the car's upgrades, and we already understand the nuances of operating the power unit much better. The results are definitely below our expectations to contend for the championship. But at the same time, we want to see positive moments. There are only five races out of at least 22 behind us – let's see if there will be an opportunity to hold the two Middle Eastern rounds that were canceled. We don't dwell too much on what has happened. We try to learn every day to prepare as best as we can for the next race. Undoubtedly, we continue to believe that the championship fight is ongoing. We want to remain participants in this battle and hope that the outcome of the championship will be decided only in Abu Dhabi. I think everyone at McLaren is determined, and we want it to be just like that."
