On Friday, the teams actively tested new products and young drivers, while on Saturday morning they focused on preparing for qualifying. No one was particularly in a hurry to hit the track; it was too hot – outside the effective working range of the tires, but tomorrow the weather will be similar.
Spectators in the stands hid behind hats and umbrellas, while drivers sat under air conditioners and wore cooling vests – it’s hot in Spain during the summer. The cars couldn’t hide – and drove on the scorching asphalt.
At the 35th minute, the session was stopped with red flags – Valtteri Bottas spun out in turn 10 due to brake failure. The driver was unharmed, the car was evacuated, and after five minutes, the drivers went out again.
The best time was set by George Russell, completing a lap in 1:15.679.
