"Hopefully, everything will be resolved, and there will be no more conflicts."

Barcelona could potentially host a Formula 1 race in 2027, even though it is not scheduled to do so under the newly established alternating agreement with Spa-Francorchamps. This possibility has been brought up by Manuel Avino, the president of the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation (RFEdA), who acknowledges that the ongoing conflict in Iran may compel Formula 1 to explore backup options for the next season. These remarks come amidst continuing uncertainty regarding Formula 1’s events in the Middle East, with Bahrain and Jeddah already canceled in 2026 and lingering doubts about Qatar and Abu Dhabi should the regional conflict persist.

"There’s a delicate issue - the current situation is very complicated," Avino stated to Soy Motor. "We’re amidst armed conflicts, and we’ll have to observe how this impacts the 2026 calendar, where we stand in 2027, and what unfolds."

Barcelona is set to share a rotating schedule with Spa beginning next year, which means the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is not presently arranged to host a grand prix in 2027. Nevertheless, Avino hinted that the venue could quickly be activated if Formula 1 suddenly required a replacement race.

"Hopefully, everything is settled, and there are no additional conflicts or loss of life," he remarked. "But if the situation demands it, Barcelona could serve as a Plan B." When pressed further about this possibility, Avino clarified that Barcelona remains a ready option. "I believe I’ve already explained things. There’s nothing more to add; the reality is what it is, and if we need a race venue urgently, a simple phone call is all it takes."
