The FIA has set a date to consider Mercedes' request.
The FIA has set a date to review Mercedes' request to reconsider the decision to cancel Pierre Gasly's penalties in Monaco, which resulted in the Alpine driver being reinstated to third place.
Recall that the Alpine team successfully overturned two of Gasly's penalties for speeding in the pit lane. The basis for the review was the fact that the speed in the pit lane was incorrectly measured in Monaco, leading to several drivers receiving erroneous penalties for speeding.
Gasly's reinstatement to third place did not sit well with some competitors. McLaren and Red Bull Racing filed appeals to the FIA International Appeal Court to contest the cancellation of the penalties.
Mercedes took a different approach – the team decided to exercise its right to request a review of the decision. For this, Mercedes must present "a significant and important new element that was not available to the stewards at the time of the initial decision."
The FIA will consider Mercedes' request this Saturday, June 20. The hearings, which will take place via videoconference, are scheduled to begin at 10:00 Moscow time.
If the stewards determine that Mercedes indeed has significant and important new information, then the request will be considered on its merits. However, if the information provided is deemed by the stewards to be insufficient, then Mercedes' request will be rejected.
