Sainz increases pressure on Williams while Alonso looks ahead to Hungary.
"We must wait and see if there are any improvements at Silverstone."
Carlos Sainz has increased the pressure on Williams following another disappointing weekend in Austria, amid ongoing rumors that he might consider other options for 2027 if the team does not improve. The Spaniard retired due to an electrical issue on Sunday, even though he experienced "much better pace" compared to earlier in the weekend.
Williams is anticipated to roll out significant upgrades at Silverstone, but Sainz emphasized that they cannot come soon enough. When asked if he feels optimistic about an enhanced car, he responded: "Let’s not fool ourselves, I’m positive only in the context of our current performance, which is very poor," he stated. "I’m positive because at least I've returned to the level I was at in Barcelona and the previous races, where I was somewhat comfortable with our limited performance, so I'm relieved about that."
"However, I hope this is the end of these really terrible weekends because we've faced everything—no reliability, no pace, and no car capable of earning points. Therefore, we must wait and see if things get better at Silverstone." "Despite all the negativity regarding this season's start, I feel a bit more hopeful today. But we need to change things and enhance our performance."
Meanwhile, fellow Spaniard Fernando Alonso also hinted that Aston Martin's long-anticipated major upgrade is still some time away. After another challenging race, Alonso expressed that he expects little improvement in the next two races. "Disappointed?" he responded when questioned by reporters. "Well, it wasn’t unexpected. Obviously, we know our position. And we realize it will be the same at Silverstone and Spa." His remarks suggest that Aston Martin’s significant Newey-led package is now likely to arrive for the Hungarian GP at the end of July.
