An additional race has been added in Madrid for Formula 3.
The organizers of Formula 3 announced a change in the race weekend format for the final stage of the season in Madrid from September 11-13. To compensate for the canceled Formula 3 stage in Bahrain in April, an additional qualifying session and race will take place at the Madrid track.
As a result, the schedule for the Formula 3 weekend in the Spanish capital will look as follows: on Friday morning, there will be a 45-minute practice session, followed by two consecutive qualifying sessions of 20 minutes each in the afternoon. On Saturday morning, there will be a sprint with a reverse grid based on the results of the first qualifying session.
On Saturday afternoon, the main race will take place with a starting grid based on the results of the first qualifying session. On Sunday morning, the second main race will take place with a starting grid based on the results of the second qualifying session.
The pole sitter in each qualifying session will receive two points, and points in both main races will be awarded according to the standard Formula 3 system of 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1. Points from the sprint will also be awarded according to the standard system of 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.
Additionally, two-day Formula 3 tests will take place at the Madrid track on August 24-25. Bruno Michel, head of Formula 3: "I am very pleased to announce the Formula 3 tests at the Madrid track. These will be two very important days for teams and drivers, who will be able to assess the new track ahead of the decisive stage of the 2026 season.
This season, we are looking forward to a rather unique conclusion to the championship with an expanded final stage. This format will give teams and drivers an additional opportunity to earn points after the cancellation of the race weekend in Bahrain earlier in the year."
