The first IndyCar game in more than twenty years is set to be released early next year.

The latest in car news and reviews, no nonsense
In the past year, iRacing Studios has been working on a dedicated IndyCar title, the first of its kind since the mid-2000s. The journey to create a new IndyCar game has faced challenges, particularly since the license for the American open-wheel racing series was previously held by Motorsport Games, but that agreement ended without any results, leading to IndyCar partnering with iRacing.
We hadn’t received any updates about the game for months, but on Friday, it was announced that it will be released in early 2027, along with a couple of screenshots.
The game, officially named IndyCar Racing: The Game (which feels somewhat redundant), will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam next year. When it was first announced nearly a year ago, iRacing confirmed that the game would use its own Orontes engine, rather than the middleware found in iRacing's main simulator or Unreal Engine. Orontes is the same technology that drives the publisher’s advanced racer ExoCross, which is impressively sophisticated and high-performing despite its more fantastical theme.
Originally, the IndyCar game was set for a 2026 release, but with many software projects getting delayed, and since iRacing appeared to be aiming for a quick turnaround, it’s not surprising that the launch has been pushed to 2027.
Nonetheless, this is definitely a title we are looking forward to. IndyCar enthusiasts know it offers some of the best racing available today, and American open-wheel motorsport has seldom received the attention it deserves in the gaming world.
