Horner moving to Aston? Schumacher remains skeptical.

Ralf Schumacher doubts that Christian Horner’s much-speculated return to Formula 1 will be with Aston Martin. The former head of Red Bull has been associated with Aston Martin, Alpine, and even a potential twelfth entry backed by BYD, but Schumacher believes various factors could hinder this.

"I can't picture Christian Horner returning as team principal, especially not under someone like Lawrence Stroll," he shared with Sky Deutschland. "I don't think that would be feasible. That's my perspective."

Schumacher points out that Jonathan Wheatley is often seen as the frontrunner to assume the role of team principal at the Silverstone-based outfit. "It is quiet around him right now, but I foresee him stepping back into such a position at some point. What would Christian Horner do at Aston Martin?"

He speculates that Horner’s next move will hinge on having more autonomy than he did at Red Bull. "He would again have a strong superior over him, where he wouldn't have complete freedom," he noted. "Horner likely wants to be a shareholder, and understandably, he doesn't wish to find himself in a position where he could be dismissed again. I think that’s something everyone can grasp."

Additionally, Schumacher believes the BYD rumors will persist. "The subject of BYD is still developing," he stated. "Alpine is also mentioned, but for Christian to get a chance there, some changes would need to happen regarding Flavio Briatore first, which doesn't seem straightforward."

Regardless, Schumacher feels that Horner deserves another shot in Formula 1. "One can't overlook the fact that, regardless of past events, he’s been one of the most successful team principals in the sport," he remarked. "Thus, he absolutely has the right to take on a role here again. He understands the sport and how it operates."

"A controversial figure is also a part of the grand stage that is Formula 1. Someone with a personality like Christian Horner is integral to that." Schumacher also mentioned that Toto Wolff has acknowledged Horner's absence, saying, "Toto even sent him a message suggesting that despite being a fierce rival, he misses him. Those two really had some intense battles."

Regarding Aston Martin, Schumacher noted that the presence of Adrian Newey complicates the notion of a reunion. "Of course, anything is possible. Perhaps one day Lawrence Stroll will sell the team, and then Horner might come back into the picture."
