Hülkenberg: There is only a place for a reserve driver at Audi.
Before the start of the race weekend in Belgium, Nico Hülkenberg commented on the recent rumors that Carlos Sainz could replace him in 2027. The German driver ironically responded that there is only a place for Carlos as a reserve driver in Audi.
"The contract situation is clear, and from my side, there is absolutely no uncertainty," Nico Hülkenberg replied when asked if he would be racing for Audi in 2027. "Yes, I will be racing. All these rumors are typical summer talk in Formula 1. I know the team is very happy with Gabriel Bortoleto and me.
We only have a spot for a reserve driver, but I doubt Carlos would be interested in that option."
Speaking about the race weekend in Spa, Nico was more serious: "There are a lot of straights in Spa, so power and energy management are important on the track, and energy management has never been our strong suit. So, to be honest, we are in for a tough weekend.
In theory, Spa doesn't look like a suitable track for us, but this is racing. We need to give it our all because anything can happen."
