Red Bull is urging Verstappen to make a decision regarding 2027.

      There is increasing pressure on Max Verstappen to clarify his future before the deadline for exercising his Red Bull exit clause. While he may not have to make a formal decision until October, former Formula 1 driver Robert Doornbos indicated that Red Bull would understandably prefer a sooner answer as it prepares its driver lineup for 2027. "I understand that from Austria, the pressure on Max and his management is growing to reach a decision," he shared on the Pit Talk podcast. "That’s reasonable, as leaving the team uncertain until the late part of the season isn’t fair."

      Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies has acknowledged that this uncertainty is leading other drivers to inquire about Verstappen's position. "It works both ways," he told Sky. "It's only natural for Max to receive calls from many people since he is the best driver in the world. Likewise, if you are a top team, you will likely hear from several of these capable drivers as well. That’s just how it is." He added, "Is this a distraction for us? Not really."

      Speculation heightened at Spa when Verstappen’s manager, Raymond Vermeulen, and father Jos were spotted in McLaren’s hospitality area. Ralf Schumacher confirmed, "I’ve seen footage of the manager and Jos Verstappen in catering with McLaren over the weekend. That is not a coincidence; something is surely happening there."

      Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane mentioned that Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad are being prepared for possible promotion. "That’s certainly the goal for both of them," he said. "My objective and that of our team is to develop drivers for that team." He added, "Getting into specifics is more for Laurent to address, but we need to ensure they are both ready for that opportunity." He noted that if Laurent requires another driver, he will have one or two options available.

      Promoting either Lawson or Lindblad would also open a position at Racing Bulls for Formula 2 championship leader Nikola Tsolov. "He’s performing remarkably well," Permane remarked. "To say he’s on the radar would be an understatement. He’s undoubtedly next in line, I believe it’s reasonable to say." However, he was uncertain about the timeline, stating, "When that will happen, I truly don't know. It’s accurate to say we are considering it at this moment."

      Dutch racing icon Tom Coronel remains convinced that Verstappen will decline other options and remain with Red Bull. "He stays," he asserted on the Dutch television talk show De Oranjezomer. "100 percent. That team is made for him." Coronel suggested that Verstappen's current frustrations do not indicate a need for a radically different environment. "The drive he has, his intensity, that’s precisely what I admire about Max." He believes that the summer break could be the reset Verstappen requires. "Give him six weeks of vacation, or even just four weeks now." He concluded, "After Hungary, he has nothing for four weeks. He will return rejuvenated. And then everything will be fine."
