Gerhard Berger is pleased with the successes of the Red Bull drivers.
The achievements of Red Bull's engine builders amaze many, as by the 2026 season they, in collaboration with Ford specialists, created their first power unit, which turned out to be quite powerful and efficient.
As for the fact that the DM01 had reliability issues, this year the cars of Mercedes and other teams using engines built in Brackley also did not always make it to the finish line. At the same time, the experience of the two companies, Red Bull Powertrains (RBPT) and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP), cannot be compared at all.
Gerhard Berger, the Austrian Formula 1 veteran, is among those who are pleased with RBPT's successes. According to him, it was quite expected that there would be many difficulties in the debut season with the power units built in Milton Keynes, however, the drivers of Red Bull Racing are performing better and better, and the team continues to progress.
In any case, starting from the Canadian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has already finished in the top three four times, including taking 2nd place in Hungary a week ago.
"I look at Red Bull, realizing that they have built a completely new engine. Of course, they invited specialists from other engine manufacturing companies, but to challenge Mercedes and Ferrari and be competitive with their own engine in the very first year – in my opinion, that makes an incredibly strong impression," Berger shared in an interview with the championship's official website. "While the team has reliability issues, which is, of course, unpleasant, especially when it comes to components like wings. But other teams also have reliability problems.
Overall, I am a fan of Max Verstappen's talent and believe he is an exceptional driver. If Max continues to work calmly with the team, and Red Bull invites a few more good specialists, then I expect that in six months to a year they will be very competitive again."
