New details about the racetrack project in Croatia

      In June, we reported on the Croatia Ring project, which involves the construction of a racetrack near the Croatian town of Slunj, capable of hosting the highest level of racing. At first glance, the project seems somewhat unrealistic; however, news from Croatia continues to emerge, indicating the seriousness of its authors' intentions.

      The Croatia Ring has been in development for five years and is included in the list of strategically important projects that foresee state investments. In the main evening news of the national television channel HRT, project leader Davorin Stetner stated that some drivers competing in Formula 1 in 2026 have already been briefed on the project. Specifically, it was mentioned that plans for the racetrack were shown to Lando Norris, the reigning world champion, and he allegedly expressed his opinion, which will also be taken into account.

      However, by Formula 1 standards, the 3.6 km long track (instead of the initially proposed 4.2 km) is clearly too short, and the stands for only 15,000 spectators are also not on the right scale. But the project also includes the construction of a hotel complex, restaurants, an exhibition center, and a concert venue on a 50-hectare site, and the racetrack itself is intended not only for motorsport competitions but also as a testing ground for new car models and for various presentations.

      It seems that if the Croatia Ring is built, its main purpose will be to attract tourists year-round by hosting various spectacular events.

      Currently, the project is undergoing final approvals, and if everything goes according to plan, the construction of the racetrack will begin in 2027 and will be completed in about two years.
