In Madrid, residents may be evicted for the duration of the Grand Prix

We wrote about the fact that in 2026, the Spanish Grand Prix will be held not in Barcelona, and on the city circuit in Madrid, the project which is now undergoing approvals at the local level. In general, everything is going smoothly, but completely avoided problems. One of them is the high noise level, which exceeds the sanitary norms even in not the loudest modern Formula 1 cars. The local newspaper El Pais writes that during free runs, qualifying and the race, the noise level will exceed the established threshold of 80 dB. The authorities offer different solutions. The simplest is to turn a blind eye to the violation of the rules. There is a proposal to change the scheme of the track and build soundproof barriers. The most controversial idea is to temporarily relocate residents from areas close to the track in order to avoid inconvenience, "given the relatively short duration of noise accompaniment to the races" - about 13 hours a year. Compensation measures are also being developed for commercial enterprises, which will have to close for the duration of the races. Everything should be agreed by the summer, when work will begin on the preparation of the track and related infrastructure.
