Formula E: Barnard's first victory is not far away

Formula E: Barnard's first victory is not far away

the 20-year-old British Taylor Barnard, playing in Formula E for McLaren, this weekend surprised many people, and it's not just that he became the youngest pole winner in the history of the electric series. The city circuit in Jeddah hosted a double round of the World Championship in electric cars, and Taylor climbed the podium on Friday and Saturday, demonstrating excellent stability. First he finished third, then won Saturday's qualifying and finished the Saudi weekend in second place in yesterday's race. It is worth adding that the first race was notable for the fact that it was the first time that the mandatory pit stop rule was introduced with an express recharge of on-board batteries (Pit Boost), which, of course, influenced the choice of tactics. And on Saturday, the battle on the track was more traditional for Formula E, and Taylor in both cases acted thoughtfully and correctly, demonstrating real maturity. Afterwards, he said that his first victory is not too long away. "It's not too far away," said Barnard, who after such a successful weekend rose to second in the individual standings. - I guess I'm just putting all the pieces together now, but clearly my goal is to win. When the car will allow me to fight for it, of course, I will do everything in my power. For now, the main task is just to earn points, trying to have more of them. It's important for me and for our team, and the wins will come. Before the start of the weekend, I didn't expect to take home three cups (including pole) and earn so many points. I couldn't have dreamed of more. The team did a great job in giving me a great car and I was able to do everything right. The second race of the weekend was very different from Friday's race. We had to regenerate 10% more energy than in the first race and I knew it would be impossible to keep the lead for the whole distance. At some point I had to slow down the pace and try to regenerate energy more actively than my rivals. And I succeeded, so I am very glad that after starting from pole finished second. Of course, after such a successful weekend in Jeddah, Zak Brown, Executive Director of McLaren Racing, was not stingy on praise for his racer: "Wow! Taylor Barnard took 2nd place after a great race, which was a great end to the weekend for our Formula E team! It's been a great start to the season, we've already had four podiums in the first three races and we'll look to build on that success". It's worth adding that it was Barnard who got his team all its best results this year. Sam Bird, his experienced teammate, has nothing to brag about so far and is only 12th in the individual standings.
