Verstappen has 'no intention' of re-engaging with Russell.

Max Verstappen is not willing to delve back into the controversy that concluded his 2024 championship season. Despite clinching his fourth consecutive drivers' title, he faced sharp criticism from Mercedes' George Russell regarding an incident during Qatar GP qualifying. Recently, Russell reignited the issue, stating that he did not communicate with Verstappen throughout the winter break and has "no intentions" of doing so. "Obviously, I felt things got out of line last year," the British driver remarked. "I made it clear that I’m not going to take it."

In contrast, Verstappen is disengaging from this controversy. "Honestly, I have no intention to continue any kind of conflict in February," he noted. "I’m still enjoying my time away from Formula 1 and preparing for the season. I really have nothing to say about that matter."

It's not only Russell who is provoking Verstappen as excitement builds for a potentially tight championship race in 2025; last year’s runner-up, Lando Norris, is also sounding assertive. "I need to get my elbows out and show him that I’m not going to easily concede positions," the McLaren driver stated.

However, Verstappen also chose not to discuss his likely competitors for the upcoming season. "I prefer to focus on myself," he said. "That’s the only thing I can control, and that’s what I’ll always do. When I’m away, I don’t really think about my rivals or anything. I just live my life. That’s about all I can say."
